The turbine manufacturer has set itself recycling targets. But how will it get there, and what challenges does it face? Siemens Gamesa is working with rival turbine manufacturers, wind farm developers, chemicals companies and universities to find recycling solutions within the wind industry. It is part of the DecomBlades scheme — also including Vestas, Ørsted, GE Renewable Energy-owned LM Wind Power, and the Technical University of Denmark — which aims to research commercialisation of sustainable solutions to recycle wind turbine blades.
